Weekly Juice Battle 17

Another Monday means time for another juice battle. Last week was a pretty good one. I managed to go through 12 juices and really only a couple of them were true stinkers – despite the fact that I mixed in some of my more “vintage” juices that needed reviewing before they completely decompose. It was a pretty tight field this week and I had a hell of a time rating all of these. My Vaporshark quit working on me back on Monday – more on that in another article. Anyway, I was almost getting to the point where the DNA20 had completely ruined mechs for me, but I had to get back to basics this week with no variable wattage at my disposal. All these juices were tested on a Igo-L at 0.7 ohms on a mech, so it should be a pretty even playing field.

With that out of the way, on with the battle!

#12 Eliquid Market: Cigar

Coming in dead last out of 12 this week is Cigar from Eliquid Market. To their credit, I couldn’t manage to find this one on their site, so they may not be offering it anymore. I bought this one myself quite a while ago, when I was actually just getting in to vaping. It was my first ever cigar flavored vape, and really is not a good representation at all of what a good cigar vape should taste like.

As soon as you open the bottle, you will notice an extremely pungent aroma. I think it smells a lot like corn chips. I thought about it more over the past couple days and it’s almost like really nasty BO. It’s just not appealing in any way.

Unfortunately, this juice tastes just like it smells. The flavor is super thick and will get everywhere. It reeks up an atomizer, it will get on your hands, on your PV, everywhere, and it is just plain nasty. This was the only juice this week that is just straight up unvapable.

#11 Yaeliq: Cuba

Coming in at #11 this week is Yaeliq’s Cuba. This is supposed to be a Cuban-style tobacco vape.

I had really high expectations for this one – so high that I foolishly decided to buy a 100ml bottle of it before I had ever tasted any of his tobaccos. Much like a lot of the other tobaccos I have tried from Yaeliq, this one is quite underwhelming. It’s also bordering on being a little disgusting. Now in comparison to  Cigar from Eliquid Market, this one is at least vapable.

It does have a tobacco vibe to it, and it has the pepper flavor that I get from a good Cuban. It’s a light to medium bodied vape with very little sweetness and a lot of grassy peppery notes in it. However, the overall taste has kind of a musty undertone that makes it really unsettling. Couple that with the fact that Cuban is kind of a strong flavor bordering on being an acquired taste to begin with, and you have a juice that is just really not very good. It does hit well and produce pretty good vapor – I can usually stomach this one every once in a great while, but at the pace I can handle it would take me a long time to ever get through this huge bottle of it that I have sitting here.

#10 Azure Vaping: Blackberry Fizz

Coming in at #10 this week is Blackberry Fizz from Azure. Here’s what they say about it:

Bold blackberry flavor with a fizzy cola undertone.

This is another one I had to dig deep into my juice archives for – it’s so old that it still has their old Blue Mist company name on the label. One big plus for this juice is that it has stood the test of time. I’ve had this one for almost 2 years and it tastes just like it did when I first got it  – in fact it actually tastes a lot better now because I’m using it in a nice RDA setup that has way better flavor than the shitty carto tanks I was first using when I tried this one.

Flavor-wise, it tastes very perfume-y. Not a really caustic perfume flavor that makes it unbearable – rather a nice light kind of perfume. It kind of takes over the entire flavor of the vape. If you stretch, you can kind of make out some blackberry notes, but I think it is more just the perfume talking. I really didn’t find any traces of fizzy cola in this one at all, and I have tried their straight fizzy cola and know what it tastes like.

So this one really did not come through on the description to me. It just tastes kind of light with floral notes. Not bad by any stretch but really nothing special about it either.

Vape wise, it actually performed really well. At 100% VG, it had a very nice throat hit and the vapor production was actually quite impressive. I could see myself vaping this one every once in a great while, but the flavor really isn’t good enough to get me interested. Azure has much better stuff out there.

#9 Mt. Baker Vapor: Vanilla Tobacco

Coming in at #9 this week is Vanilla Tobacco from MBV. Here’s what they say about it:

The Vanilla Tobacco e juice is made with the highest quality flavors and ingredients and will satisfy your taste buds and nicotine cravings.

I have to say that this one actually exceeded my expectations. This is the first tobacco from MBV I’ve had that I can say actually tastes somewhat like tobacco. It’s got a nice grassy tobacco kind of thing going on, on the inhale. On the exhale, it has light notes of vanilla. The two kind of combine together to create an almost sun-tan-lotion-like flavor. It’s not really bad, but I didn’t find it that tasty either.

It’s actually kind of sad because this juice has over 100 reviews on their website with an average of around 4/5.

As someone who has tasted a lot of good vanilla vapes and a lot of good tobaccos vapes, I don’t think this juice did a particularly good job in either category. The vanilla isn’t strong enough to overpower the tobacco which is good, but it also tastes almost medicinal at the same time. The tobacco is there, but it is extremely light and doesn’t have a ton of personality.

The juice actually vapes pretty good. I was getting a solid throat hit out of it and respectable about of vapor. It’s an OK tasting juice and I don’t think I would have any problems vaping some from time to time, but there’s nothing about it that stands out enough to the point where I would ever buy it again or recommend it. It’s just OK at best.

#8 Alice in Vapeland: Black and White Cookie

Coming in at #8 this week is Black and White Cookie from Alice in Vapeland. Here’s what they say about it:

Your favorite big Black & White cookie, vapestyle. Bold and chocolatey on one half, white-frostingy on the other, all on top of a big soft-cookie flavor.

I thought this juice was pretty decent. To me, the chocolate is the big star in this one. It has a nice smooth chocolate flavor on the inhale, with a little more chocolate on the exhale and some vanilla and frosting notes.  I personally found the flavor to be very light on this one. While you can pull out a lot of the black and white cookie notes, it does take a little work to get there. The flavor of this one also seemed to get muted quickly the more I vaped it.  The first puff you take is going to be the most flavorful by far, and it goes downhill quickly after that.

I didn’t really have any problems vape-wise with this one. It hit good and had good vapor. The quality of vape was pretty good all around on this one, save for the fact that the flavor is a little on the light side.

This is a pretty good juice in general. Really, the only reason it scored so low this week is because the flavor didn’t come through as well as it did on other juices ahead of it this week. I would definitely recommend checking it out in a smaller size if it sounds good to you.

#7 Virgin Vapor: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Rounding out the bottom half of the countdown this week at #7 is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough by Virgin Vapor. Here’s what they say about it:

This rich, complex flavor will remind you of licking the spoon after your mother made freshly baked cookies! You can taste that raw, cookie dough taste with chocolate chip undertones. Delicious and satisfying, this e-liquid has all of the taste and none of the calories!

This is another one that I’ve had around for a long time, and like others, this one actually tastes better to me today than when I originally tried it out – mostly due to a better setup, I think.

Just like Black and White Cookie, this one starts off with a blast of chocolate on the inhale. Unlike the chocolate on Black and White cookie, this one has a little more pizzazz to it. It actually tastes a lot like a semi-sweet chocolate chip to me – it even tastes a little melty. It’s really nice to have the smooth chocolate with just a hint of bitterness from the dark chocolate notes in it.

On the exhale, you get a lot more of the vanilla – it’s a nice vanilla flavor that is comparable to true vanilla extract. My wish here was that the vanilla flavor would have been a little stronger. I found it to be fairly weak. If the vanilla had come through as good as the chocolate does, I think this juice might have been rated higher than it is.

For a pure VG juice, this stuff hits pretty good at medium nic, however it was a little light for me so I would probably suggest getting it in higher nic if you care about throat hit.

I can say that I would recommend this juice. It tastes pretty good, and the flavor is accurate. It also vapes well, and it’s organic. If you’re using a more beginner style setup, you might not be able to get the same level of flavor from it. The overall flavor is pretty light, and I definitely did not think it came through much at all in a cartomizer, but it does quite well in a RDA.

#6 503 eLiquid: Cappuccino

Kicking off the top half of the countdown this week at #6 is Cappuccino by 5o3 eLiquid. Here’s what they say about it:

Bold rich espresso flavor with a hint of milk. Only available in decaf :(

I got this bottle from a buddy of mine who picked it up from a local vape shop. It’s kind of surprising to see a crystal clear juice when you’re expecting a dark rich cappuccino, however I was surprised by how accurate the flavor on this one really was.

It tastes like a nice dark roast coffee with just a splash of cream. The cream is mostly present on the exhale and is very subtle. The coffee notes are actually also mostly present on the exhale. For whatever reason, I didn’t get a lot of flavor on the inhale at all with this one.

Overall, the good quality flavor on the exhale makes up for it, and this is a good tasting juice that is accurate in terms of the description.

Probably the biggest problem I had with this one is that much like Black and White Cookie, the flavor tends to get muted fairly quickly once you start vaping it – probably because it is a little flavor-light to begin with. It’s kind of weird having a strong flavored vape like coffee that doesn’t taste like much of anything after you get about 5-10 hits deep.

This is a pretty good vape all around, and I thought that the flavor was accurate and delicious – and better than the previous 6 competitors so far, despite still being on the light side. This one is kind of expensive at around $20 for a 30ml. At that price, I don’t think it’s really worth it in terms of the amount of flavor you get for the price, but all around this one is quite vapable and really pretty good.

#5 Dekang: Pepper

Coming in at #5 this week is Pepper by Dekang. This is supposed to taste like the popular beverage Dr. Pepper.

This is the first time I have ever reviewed a juice that I bought directly from China. I’ve had this one around and I do vape it from time to time. In fact, when I first got it, I was much newer to vaping and I vaped quite a lot of this stuff. It performs really well in a cartomizer, and obviously does even better with a better setup.

It really does taste similar to Dr. Pepper. I don’t know if it’s a dead on match, but you might get close if you were blind tasting this one. It doesn’t really have any sparkle or fizz to it, which I really normally like to see out of a soft drink flavored vape, but aside from that the flavor is quite accurate, full, and good.

It vapes great – I believe Dekang is 80/20 PG/VG, although I could be wrong. At any rate, I am pretty sure it’s a high PG liquid – however it puts out a very nice amount of vapor and it hits great at 11mg.

The thing I liked the most about this one, and the reason why I rated it above several other respectable juices this week, is because not only is the flavor accurate, it’s full. You don’t have to reach to pull any flavor out of this one, and the flavor doesn’t get dull quickly either.

For a cheapo juice direct from China, this one really performed quite well in just about every area. Considering that I probably only paid around $5 for a 30ml bottle, the price is definitely right.

#4 GoodeJuice: Fire Cured Tobacco

Coming in 4th place this week is Fire Cured Tobacco from GoodeJuice. Here’s what they say about it:

For those seeking a true fire cured taste, our Fire Cured Tobacco ejuice is made from a blend of the finest flue-cured Gold Leaf Tobaccos, a dark-fired tobacco processed by the Perique method blended with authentic Latakia Tobacco, which adds a depth of spice and passion. All natural ingredients, no artificial flavors. Brewed the Goodejuice way! This flavor is only available in a 50/50 PG/VG mix due to the extraction process.

I really like this one a lot. I have also reviewed their Natural Perique in the past, and I think this one is very similar to that.  I’ve had this bottle for a while now, and it has changed personality a bit during the time I’ve had it. When I first tried it, you could quickly tell the difference between this one and the Natural Perique. The most prominent difference was the smokey notes from the fire cure. As time went by, those seemed to dissipate, and now this one tastes almost exactly like the Natural Perique. That’s not a bad thing at all, since it is a great flavor.

I would consider this one a lighter bodied tobacco vape. It has really warm earthy and grassy notes with a nice dry finish. The flavor is perfectly full and doesn’t wear on you at all. This is actually a really good NET for all day vaping.

I like this one a lot, and the fact that it kind of changes personality once it starts aging makes me like this one just a tad better than the Natural Perique. I think it also might have a slightly better throat hit.

#3 Shark Juice: Karma

This week’s 3rd place finisher is Karma from The Vapor Co. Here’s what they say about it:

You know what goes around, comes around and the exquisite taste that Karma offers makes us all feel like we’ve done some good deeds! Try this caramely, creamy treat and let it brighten your aura today! Karma is a hard flavor to describe because it is so complex of a flavor. It is very sweet almost a coffee taste but no coffee flavors in it. It is a real rich and robust flavor that I encourage everyone to try because it is simply a masterpiece.

I ended up really liking this juice a lot, and reaching for it a lot over the past week. It has a very rich flavor profile. You can kind of pull some caramel flavor and a slight bit of cream on the exhale, but really there are not a lot of discernible flavors in this juice – rather it’s just kind of a medley of smooth, warm richness. It has just the right amount of sweetness, and it is rich, but not in such a way that it gets overbearing quickly.

I found this one works great for me when I’m going out and I don’t really have a taste for anything but want something that’s going to have a good consistent throat hit all day and I’m not going to burn out on it. This is the perfect juice for that scenario. It’s simply a good solid flavor for extended vaping. The throat hit is killer at 24mg, and the vapor production is the best I have had from any Shark Juice so far.

This is one of the juices I was reaching for  all week long.

#2 The Standard: Irie Nights

This week’s runner up is Irie Nights by the Standard. Here’s what they have to say about it:

Jamaican rum and brown sugar party

I have been wanting to get my hands on some juices from The Standard for a while now and I finally got my wish. At first I was kind of bummed to get this one in 12mg, because I was hoping for a strong throat hit. To my surprise, this one hits very well at 12mg. Maybe a little below what I’m normally comfortable with, but overall pretty respectable. The vapor production is superb, and the flavor is really unique and will leave you wanting more.

The inhale is kind of sweet and fruity with a little bit of zest. The closest thing I can compare it to is Queenside from Five Pawns.  The exhale has a really unique and delicious brown sugar flavor. I have not come across any similar taste from any other ejuice I have tried.

You will love this flavor right from the start and it will keep growing on you. It’s light enough to not become overbearing quickly, while at the same time still remaining incredibly full flavored.  I really appreciate the uniqueness and balance of it as well. The sweet and tangy notes on the inhale followed by the richness of the brown sugar on the exhale make for a perfect balance in my opinion.

This is a very well rounded vape. Due to the price, it might not be an everyday kind of thing, but more like the kind of juice you treat yourself to every once in a while. I really liked it a lot.

#1 Gremlin Juice: Vanilla Overload

This week’s big winner is Vanilla Overload from Gremlin Juice. Here’s what they say about it:

Some find this flavor to have TO much Vanilla. I think it’s just right.

It is up to you to take a chance (or order something else and ask for a sample by name.)

I definitely did not think this flavor had TOO much vanilla. I thought it was just right. I generally think vanilla is a good, safe choice as far as flavors to vape go. You can’t ever really go TOO wrong with vanilla. Gremlin took all the best things about vanilla vapes and rolled them into one juice, and I think the result is brilliant.

This juice has a nice strong vanilla taste on the inhale – like a good vanilla extract. The exhale is laced with light notes of custard, cake and french vanilla – all the greatest aspects of vanilla vaping. They each come through subtly and individually and keep a fairly neutral flavor very interesting.

At first I really didn’t care for the throat hit on this one, but as it turns out, it actually isn’t bad at all – in fact I think it hits quite a bit better than Irie Nights, and that is the primary reason I was reaching for this one a lot this week, and it ultimately beat out Irie Nights for the #1 spot.

At only 20% PG, it still puts out a pretty formidable throat hit. I would still probably make some adjustments to that number if I were to order again, but I’ve been having no issues vaping it as-is all week long, and I can see myself easily polishing off my bottle of it.

This is a great all around vape. If you want a good, safe choice with a ton of great flavor and good overall performance, this is an absolute no-brainer.

The Bottom Line

I was really glad to be able to plow through 12 juices this week despite my beloved Vaporshark shitting on me to start off my Monday. I got back to basics with my Launcher and Igo-L and managed to uncover some really good juices. The only unvapable juice this week was Cigar from Eliquid Market, and luckily it looks like that one may not be in circulation anymore anyway.

Gremlin juice has continued to really impress me with each juice I try being absolutely loaded with great, full flavor. I was also impressed by Irie Nights, my first juice from The Standard. While the throat hit was a little behind where I would like it to be, I think it will be better on a DNA20 at higher wattage and I fully intend to test that theory.

This week I have a ton more juices lined up, and I hope to knock out another 12. I also have a couple tutorials I promised last week that I still need to get to, and I have a ton of new hardware to review.

Vape on!
